Sly Swing Quartet
Formed in 2001, the Sly Swing Quartet features a rotating cast of excellent jazz musicians from Western Pennsylvania. Depending upon the occasion and the venue, the music ranges from jazz standards to contemporary classics and innovative originals.
In its current incarnation, Sly Swing features players such as Don Aliguo Sr. on saxes and flute, Mike Sakash on alto and tenor sax, Pittsburgh jazz great Eric Suesoff on guitar, as well as Mark Perna on upright bass, Nathan Santos on upright bass, Doug Wilkin on guitar and vocals and group founder Mark Weakland on drums and vocals.
Individually, the Sly Swing
members are regulars on the Western Pennsylvania jazz scene, playing
with their own quartets and ensembles as well as having played with
nationally recognized jazz artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Emily Remler,
David Amram, and John Blake. Within the larger Western PA musical
landscape, Sly Swing members also perform with groups as varied as
Salsamba, The Newlanders, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, and the Johnstown
Symphony Orchestra
