White Noise
A vocal quintet performing chiefly a cappella music, the ensemble was formed in 1998 from a group of close friends and frequent musical collaborators. The group is comprised of Elizabeth Good (soprano) Kristen Santo (alto), Nathan Santos (tenor), Mark Weakland (tenor) and Douglas Wilkin (bass). Their first performance was in February, 2001. Since 2001 the group has performed at and collaborated with the Jazz in Your Face Big Band, St. Francis University, Pittsburgh CLO's Back Stage Bar, and the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A), as well as various summer arts festivals and private events associated with vocalists such as Jane Monheit and Diana Reeves. As part of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra's 2003 75th anniversary season, White Noise performed in "Child of Wonder," a premier symphonic piece written by Mark Weakland and orchestrated by Nathan Santos. With the Winter Solstice as the subject, the 9-minute piece incorporates multi-cultural rhythms and textures and is orchestrated for solo vocal quintet, full choir (the JSO Chorus), and full orchestra including steel-stringed acoustic guitar. White Noise also appeared with the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra in the 2007 Independence Day concert and Holiday Pops concerts in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
